Tips to Extend Your Laptop Battery Life

Do you want to make your laptop`s battery life longer? Well i will show you ways to increase your battery life during use and its lifetime overall.

Some common ones you may know are:

  1. Dimming your screen
  2. Stop background program activity (which will reduce CPU usage)
  3. Do not use your optical drive (cd/dvd)
  4. Disable your wireless antenna when it is not in use

You may have not heard of these tips that will save you energy so you can use your laptop longer.

  1. Disable ports such as VGA, Ethernet, HDMI, etc. You can do this by doing to the device manager. You can also create different profiles, which will be explained next, so different hardware will be on when using different profiles.
  2. Create different profiles for different locations and whether your power adapter is connected or not. Yo cando this in the control panel
  3. Then make sure you turn the display off instead of using a screen saver when idle.

Extending the Overall Life

To get more years out of your battery you should prevent it from over heating.

  1. Use a cooling pad when you are using it on your lap
  2. Do not keep your laptop with a blanket or something holds the heat.
  3. Keep your laptop in a clean environment so the fan dosen`t get dirty.
  4. Do not keep your battery in an environment over 80 degrees Fahrenheit
  5. When you battery is done charging and you are still using it remember to remove the power adapter.

How to set up and use PortableApps on your USB flash drive

The PortableApps.com Suite is a group of common programs that can be installed on your flash drive.

  • The first step is to plug in your USB drive and backup everything on it. You dont have to delete the current files on it but you will start fresh if you do.
  • Go to PortableApps.com and pick the suite that meets your needs. Then download it, which may take some time depending on which pakage you selected.
  • After you are done downloading run it. During the installation it will ask you for the location of where you want to install the program. Make sure you choose the right drive.

  • Then select install
  • The installation has begun

  • After the installation is done you can launch it.

  • Now you will see a taskbar icon when it is running

  • Now you can start programs by using your PortableApps menu.

  • If you want to add more programs just click Options and select Get more Apps

How to Fix a stuck pixel on an LCD screen

LCD monitors are great but can sometimes have a stuck pixels on your monitor.

Pixel-fixing software

  • UDPixel: Free program that changes all pixels located around a stuck one. Just let it
    run for a few hours.
  • JScreenFix: Runs throught the internetturns all pixels on and off about 60 times per second.

The pressure method

  1. Make sure your monitor is turned off
  2. Find a pen with wit a well rounded and dull end and a damp cloth
  3. Fold your cloth so it won`t damage your monitor
  4. Place the cloth on top of the stuck pixel
  5. then start putting a little pressure on it with the pen(Only place pressure on the stuck pixel)
  6. Keep applying pressure and turn on your monitor.
  7. Release the pen and yourstuck pixel is now gone.

The rubbing method

Just simply rub the area with the stuck pixel.

Connect a Printer using Bluetooth

Bluetooth has become verry popular wireless technology and is ussually associated with cell phones.

 

  • First make sure that bluetooth is enabled on thee printer.If you don`t have a bluetooth adapter integrated in your computer then you could buy a bluetooth adapter.
  • Then you need to connect the adapter with the printer.
  • Now turn on the printer.
  • After you install your Bluetooth adapter, go to the control panel and open "Bluetooth Devices."
  • You can add your printer automatically.However this option is less secure.To do this first make sure you turn discover on” and “Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer” are checked in the options tab.After this your computer and printer and computer should then find each other begin to work.If do not want other devices finding your computer then follow the next steps
  • To add the printer manually go to the devices tab, select “Add Device” and run the installation wizard to find your printer.
  • You could also add the printer by going to the start menu and “Printers and
    Faxes” and then “Add a Printer.” When the wizard starts, choose"Bluetooth printer” and Windows will automatically search for the printer.

How To Properly Clean Your LCD Screen

LCD monitors can save a lot of desk space compared to CRT(standard) monitors. Now, many users have switched to LCD monitors. They are also more energy efficient and better for your eyes compared to CRT monitors. These monitors, however, are very fragile. Even cleaning your monitor the wrong way can damage it. A lot of force along with the wrong type of cloth can scratch your monitor or even burn a pixel. So you may be wondering how to clean it…here’s the solution.

You have probably already seen pricey LCD cleaning solutions at stores. Well you do not need to buy these product to clean your monitor. You can make your own "solution" with out to much work and at a cheaper cost.

Procedure

  • First mix the isopropyl alcohol and water in equal parts. You should not use tap water(If you use tap water there will be white marks from the minerals in the water).
  • Then should pour it into a spray bottle simmilar to a Windex bottle.
  • Now find a nice microfier cloth to clean the screen. Do not use paper tissues, it will cause scratches.
  • Now spray your solution onto the cloth and wipe the screen. Do not spray directly onto the screen. Wait a few minutes for it to dry up and there you have it.

How to build a Computer

Open The Case

The First step after you have purchased all the parts is by opening the case.Then you should Make sure that the backplate matches the motherboard.

Installing The Power Supply

First you must make sure that your power supply is the same kind as the case(atx,micro atx).In different cases the power supply could be placed in either the bottom or the top. Screw the power supply to the case from the outside.

Setting up the Motherboard

CPU

Some people prefer to have the motherboard in the case but it`s usually easier outside. The first step is to place the cpu(central processing unit) in the socket correctly aligned.Then put the thermal on the bottom piece of the cpu fan.Some come with thermal on it already.Then place it on top of the cpu.The next step is to turn the the clips to where the arrow points.Then connect the cpu fan`s power cable to the the cpu power connector which is located on the motherboard.
Memory(RAM)

RAM is very simple to install.All you have to do is to align the Ram sticks correctly to the sockets on the motherboard.The push in and make sure that it clicks.

Inserting The Motherboard into the case

Insert the motherboard so that the back of the motherboard is aligned with the backplate.Then slowly place it aligned with the case screws.The take a screw and tighten it but NOT to tight because it could cause damage.
Installing The Hardrive

Place it in a hardrive slot which is located in the front of the case.Align and screw.
Installing The Video Card

Place it in a vacant pci slot. And screw it.
Installing Media devices(cd Players,Floppy drives)

Insert it into a vacant slot which is located to the top front and screw it.

Connecting all the cables

Now we have to connect all the cables.First connect the Main power to the motherboard.Then connect the four pin power for the cpu.Then Connect power for hardrive,videocard,cd drive etc..Then we need to connect the hard drive to the motherboard.You can do this via SATA or ATA.Same with the CD drive.For a floppy drive there is a special fdd cable and socket.
Boot!

Boot your pc and make sure that there are no beeps. Go into your bios and make sure everything is set right.
